White Balance Tutorial – Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC

White Balance doesn’t have to have you biting your nails whether in camera, or in your post processing software like Lightroom. I created a useful and easy to understand tutorial that allows you to get a quick grasp on what Kelvin is, and how to correct photos easily in Lightroom by white-balancing with the picker. When I am photographing I will always have the camera in AUTOMATIC white balance and photograph in raw. The reason why is that the camera has all the data within the RAW file so that you can manually work with your photos later on after the shoot. Generally you can eye your photos and white balance by using the sliders or you can use the picker took and precisely balance accordng to a neutral object in your scene.

A user on Instagram she wanted to find out about white balance and how that works. Here quick tutorial this is going to be it should be about 10 minutes long if you’re on Instagram head
over to our YouTube pages can be in full in depth there but I’ll get into it kind of quickly here so white balance is a very neat thing that we all are trying to find out how it works and how to
prevent photos from looking to add here’s a rundown there’s a several different lighting conditions are you gonna come across its gonna be incandescent fluorescent direct sunlight
flash cloudy shade and one that’s not mentioned here is led and I have an image in here that is from a concert and lighting guys and Sarma call you out on this but yeah Youkilis with the Blues so we’re gonna jump into this one real quick for you guys I have seen white balance is is essentially measured by Calvin Calvin is the corner so that photo is you in just a minute we’re gonna have some warm gonna have some cool and it’s murder and Calvin from a range of your in Lightroom a way two thousand up to 50,000 so it’s measured that that’s the actual corrected values
I guess you can say they’re so Calvin is measured in temperature ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 and 1000 being candle
8,000 being a blue sky and sometimes it happens in the camera interpret that wrong so we have to do is essentially corrected in camera what I do is I shoot
RAW and I shoot auto that’s the safest way to do everything if you’re not doing a stylesheet you doing a start you feel free to set up all of your lighting
conditions in camera and match which you have on set and why I do that is because I am shooting for dynamically I’m in and out of business buildings and inside
outside of wedding venues and for that to happen so rapidly I don’t have time to sit there and change my settings so I always correct in post and shoot auto on set so
that’s going to be the easiest way to do so let’s get into here we have an engagement shoot we have a concert and we also have a wedding so this is on the wedding here we can start with this one
Jonathan engagement shoot and as you can see here everything looks pretty good I don’t mind this photo at all however it doesn’t match your skin tones it doesn’t
match his controls just the slightest now white balance can be adjusted by high if you have the ability to do what most people do so don’t be afraid to
just going here mainly just to buy but on here we have a picker in the color picker is essentially you’re white down selector and what that’s going to do is allow you to go around through the photo
ask you to pick a target neutral now genes are not gonna be a target neutral shirt me not being but we have done here a white and that’s going to be quite what I want to do now you can see it a
little bit more than just like to but it was pretty close to what it looked like this was taken at a lake right around the corner from here and the colors on it were popping the Sun was hitting it just break and we had a really perfect day for letting their but I’m just the tag right there and fix that image out there and I did that over here and the
temperature in 10 control her skin tones look awesome there i think thats fine his looks good not Reds not greens but if they did you green or red magenta ish
you can change that i picking the slider here and if you ever wanna go back to neutral on any of these sliders you just double click on it will take you right back to you let’s wait bound set of courting her shirt done and let’s do it again to your genes it seemed that does super super there in her shirt which was a very late bTW blue which is pretty close but true in all it was really good
with that counts are not sure that’s tanner all right let’s go to the concert started all this is the one that just be worse if you’ve ever shot concerts are going to music festival I mean the
lights of cool however this is hard for me so as you can see it’s already down to a negative down here because it’s trying to compensate for that gets the losing the Reds but the Blues overpower the changes in the Reds and cleaning that’s on him so we’re going to match that figure out where that needs to be I can go all the way over here and be happy with it but we’re gonna come down

just a little bit right here so that I could that nice red rich look great on my for another photo call the back of his head the background and that’s how that’s a that’s a little bit more extreme than ou could normally need to do but let’s get into any kids here with this wedding photo in this one here has been delighting and incandescent lamp lighting and that includes lighting is rate your

mouse’s on the table and the actually see the corner of that one right there that we believe is off at the time but the window lighting is coming in and now it’s looking blue because something on his wall where my sensor was metering is saying like hey I need to be blue because it was two more so it’s check this out here again will try to pick her and see how that works that’s not too bad a little it one for my liking so let’s go back in here and just cited just a tiny bit you can see where my slider 3569 were thought it looked good and watch what happens when i picture here manually choose the forty to fifty coming back down the lake 3904 so where I liked it according to my 3960 now I’m just a little bit of settings here so I can bring down those highlights and that’s it that shuts essentially done there that first complete for white balancing and you can go through and a little bit more crossings on post processing on it however from you thats fine i like it so
much so that’s good window IQs and incandescent lady at the same time now since I’ve just that way balance I guess that lamp was on it it appears to be alone so that’s what white
balance will do to you it will throw your camera often and actually lighting with your cameras way pounds so that’s what white balance is and does sometimes your camera picks
up the wrong and says I thought it was this but it wasn’t if you should auto tune go in there and corrective most the time he does a very good job now the cameras have such good hearing that you
don’t have to worry about setting up your way balance had a time you should I know it’s safe but again in summary of calmness and you have one that’s what white balance does and also you have
tent greens and magenta so few combination of things start your image of you can go in there and use the color picker find your white or gray item that’s a neutral color neutral object and click that see what it looks like I get over in the left hand side of here you can see the preview of what is happening in that photo when you are in your about the role that picture over some particular objects so you can actually see with the color picker when you are trying to fix this image and hover over any neutral object there and it will give you a preview of on the
left hand side of what that what that object is going to show you in camera there so you can see my movies around it does all kinds of different things here and tells me we need to be warmer or
cooler so you can always get a preview of it but summary shoot shoot I know if your dynamic machining like weddings inside-outside that’s gonna save you a lot of time setting up your camera each time but if you feel free our auto works best at doing this for sixteen years and I have shut out of the time they don’t
