Ring Macro Focus Stacking for Photographers

Ring Macro Focus Stacking for Photographers

I was going through my macro ring stacking photos last week after learning that a few people in the facebook wedding group were curious on how to make their rings show up clean clear and not out of foucs! Well, introducing “Ring Macro Focus Stacking!” Similarly to how I have been doing my panoramic photos coined as the “Brenizer Method,” Macro Focus Stacking is a whole different process. Easy, but different. It doesn’t take much learning, except you will want to manually focus your shots when you compose it.

I first learned about stacking photos when I noticed someone taking photos of insects and everything was absolutely in focus. I didn’t realize what they had done until I caught wind of it in a post and the photographer at that time showed a snip of how he made this electron microscope shot with stacking. It hit me! Let’s do it on the rings. Here are a few ways you can achieve the goal.  See the video below. I have included the metadata in all of my rings shots I have included here. I hope you enjoy them! I prefer to have the macro stacking on the ring shots that give a great depth of field but also have my subject, the ring, in focus.

I have used 4 lenses over the years

Nikon 70-180mm
Nikon 105mm
Nikon  60mm
Canon 180mm

My all-time favorite is the 70-180mm, an older lens by Nikon. The next runner-up is the canon 180. I was photographing weddings with both cameras at once point due to the increased megapixels on the canon mark iii at the time.

Church Street Ballroom Wedding | Raphaela + Andrew

Church Street Ballroom Wedding | Raphaela + Andrew

Congratulations to Raphaela + Andrew who had a beautiful Church Street Ballroom Wedding! The weather was great, cloudy, but it made for a beautiful day. Raphaela + Andrew opted in for a first look. First looks are always so sweet and such a cute and private moment between the couple, right before they go down the aisle. As great as it is working in the Port Orange area, we love getting to travel to Orlando, it is a nice change of pace and scenery. The couple and their bridal party got ready at Trinity Lutheran Downtown Orlando. This is also where they had their ceremony. Trinity Downtown is such a pretty church, inside and out, perfect for this couple to be wed in. After a sweet ceremony, the party was taken to Church Street Ballroom to continue their celebrations as newly weds. Puff n Stuff catered such a delicious meal! After wonderful dances, speeches and a fun time, we sent the couple off with sparklers to their new lives together. Congrats Raphaela + Andrew! Take a peek at their wedding below, don’t forget to leave well wishes in the comments and share on social media 🙂

Hiring a Destination Photographer for your all your event needs!

Hiring a Destination Photographer for out of state/country weddings!

By Jenn Ross

Are you looking for a destination photographer for your wedding? Well, I can explain a little about why people sometimes ask us why we want to be photographers, and I say it usually begins first with a passion for it which then leads the way to brand new experiences. Since I’ve been working with Mark Dickinson I have come to realize that he loves to travel as much as I do. As I’ve mentioned before, photographers at heart are artists who either subconsciously or consciously want to capture moments and freeze them in their existence to live on forever. For me it’s no surprise that the love and will to travel lies within every artist because it gives us a chance to see something new, see things we’ve never seen before so we can create our art that is inspired by these new places.

Travel also presents challenges that are mostly good and never bad. You never lose anything from being presented with a new challenge, at worst you learn. And that’s not really bad is it? Being a photographer, no matter what your market, challenges make you think quickly, make you problem solve and in the end make you a better artist. You grow and learn and see amazing new places while meeting new people.

Exploring and discovering the world around me is what drives me to leave the familiar in exchange for the unknown.  Also the inexperience of shooting in a new location gives you the experience you need to work fast and get the shot you expect to get every time.

So back to travel, before I began working with Mark and his wife Lindsay, they were already doing destination weddings (and I don’t mean the Florida ones, I know, our state is a destination!) in places like Nicaragua, Italy, and the Dominican Republic. I myself travel a lot photographing bands and live music at festivals across the country. I’ve recently been to LA and Sweden doing various photography projects. The most recent festival I went to was Camp Barefoot 9 in West Virginia in the beautiful blue ridge mountains. Yes, for that weekend we lived inside a John Denver tune. I invited Mark along as a guest and he was able to shoot as well, because he also loves music as much as I do! It was fun to get out of our wedding element and still take photos at an event that we could really enjoy. It never feels like work when you’re surrounded by great friends and incredible live music. But that’s not to say a wedding doesn’t feel almost the same! There’s music, and throughout a day you really get to know the Bride and Groom and their friends and family, so in the end you feel like you’re a new part of the family. And in a way, with our photos, we are!

We are now currently looking forward to a wedding in North Carolina followed by an Ohio wedding in the near future. Between these weddings I will be searching for new festivals that will hopefully say yes to us and give us more opportunities to expand our skills and portfolios.

If you’re looking for a destination photographer for your wedding, look no further–hire us!

But we aren’t just wedding photographers, we can cover any event from commercial to senior portraits, engagements, families, music festivals, sports, you name it and we’ve got it covered!

Jennifer + Jacob | Delamater House Destination Wedding Photography

Jennifer + Jacob | Delamater House Destination Wedding

Jennifer met Jacob when she moved from Florida to Texas. Although it was not love at first sight for Jennifer and Jacob, their friends quickly realized  that something was blossoming between the two of them. As the two began to hang out more and more, one day Jacob’s best friend asked Jennifer, “So, when did you two start dating?” While their first date was quite simple, grabbing a bite to eat at Sonic, their wedding day was fit for a queen. Everything from Jennifer’s makeup to the floral decor was planned with the love and support of an entire family and community of friends. You could just feel the love everywhere you turned, and during each toast, tails of fun, adventure, respect and admiration for the couple filled the air around the venue. As always, the staff at the Delamater House as well as the planner, caterer, bar staff and DJ brought to life each and every moment of the evening. It is always a pleasure to capture such special moments here. We hope you enjoy the photos, and don’t forget to leave Jennifer and Jacob your congratulations and well wishes in the comments below!

Gold and Blush Estate Wedding | Julie & Josh | Mark Dickinson Photography

Julie & Josh’s Gold and Blush Estate Wedding

Julie and Josh had a classical romantic wedding in a chapel on a private estate. The color palate reflected that of warm spring tones. Bridesmaids and Groomsmen both wore blush in their attire, while Josh stood out with his classic black bow tie and vest. The florals were a mix of blush, ivory and violet garden roses, while Julie’s completed vintage look was topped off with an amazing cathedral length veil. The soft touches made for very romantic and whimsical photos of the newly married couple, and the decor inside the tavern was nothing short of magical.
